Pursuing God

Sow for yourselves according to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God); reap according to mercy and loving-kindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor, till He comes and teaches you righteousness and rains His righteous gift of salvation upon you. Hosea 10:12 AMP

A few weeks ago, as I was waking up, the Lord dropped the words “pursuing God” or “pursue God” into my mind. Then, the next day, as I was waking up, I saw the same words written on a page and Hosea 10:12 came to my mind.

There are a couple of different definitions for the word pursue. One is to seek to form a relationship with someone in a persistent way. Similar: woo, court, continue to investigate, explore or discuss (a topic, idea or argument). To pursue in a biblical context means to actively and diligently chase after something or someone with determination and consistent effort. A similar word is to seek.

In Hosea 10:12, the Lord said to “break up your uncultivated ground.” Uncultivated ground is ground that has sat dormant and been unplowed for a season. Breaking up the fallow or uncultivated ground means to prepare your heart to receive the seed of God’s word. In our walk with the Lord, it seems that there are times when we may feel stagnant and like we are not growing spiritually. There are also seasons when it seems that we grow horizontally, rather than vertically. What I mean is that we grow in our capacity and ability to minister to others. And then there are seasons where we grow more vertically in our relationship with God. The last few years have been a real time of stretching and growing horizontally for my husband and I in ministering to others, especially the needs of our own family members. But I sense the Lord is calling us to pursue Him, because He is ready to bring us into a new season of growth in our relationship with Him. I have also heard many prophetic words and my husband has had dreams about a time of the glory of God being poured out and a time of great harvest. God is calling the body of Christ to pursue Him, so we can be filled with His glory and used to win the lost. I invite you all to seek and pursue the Lord with me. It is time to seek Him until He sends the rain. God bless you all.
