A Storm is Brewing

A few days ago, my husband and I shared a dream he had recently on our YouTube channel. The first dream was about a storm of hurricane proportions going on across the Atlantic ocean. In the dream, my husband and I were on a beach on the Atlantic ocean in the United States of America. The storm that was across the ocean caused a tidal surge that reached the shores of the U.S.A. We had a truck parked on the beach, while we were up on higher ground. As the tidal surge came in, it rose to the level of the top of the hood. Because the windows were down, it filled the truck up with water. Some time later, the surge had gone back down and we were able to go down to the truck, get in and drive it again. As we drove down the beach, my husband saw that there were places where land mines had went off or missiles had struck the beach, like we had been in a war.

My interpretation of the dream was that the situation going on over in Russia and Ukraine was causing a ripple effect that was reaching the United States of America. Of course, we know that it is drastically affecting the price of oil and gas, which in turn will cause the price of everything else to escalate more rapidly than it already has and there is a possibility that America could be pulled into the war. I have heard several officials state that Russia may attack our electrical grid or launch an EMP. All this could cause a lot of fear and anxiety, if we let it.

Today, as I was pondering all of this, my thoughts turned to the story of Jesus and his disciples and how they handled a storm. Mark 4:35-40 records the story:

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude they took Him along in the boat as He was. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” NKJV

Even though the disciples had been with Jesus day and night, seen Him do mighty miracles, etc., it still seemed that they didn’t really perceive who He was, the Son of God. They didn’t realize that He had power to stop the storm, so they remained in fear.

The Lord doesn’t always stop the storm, because sometimes there is a purpose for allowing it. As I heard one prophet recently say, “Don’t pray for the shaking to stop, but pray that what needs to be shaken out of us will be shaken out.” (See Hebrews 12:25-29). In a lot of ways, America has become a prodigal nation. I believe the Lord is allowing certain things to happen in order to get people’s attention and turn their hearts back to Him.

The good news is that for those of us who truly know Him, the storm may be going on all around us, but we don’t have to let the storm get inside of us. The writer of Psalm 91 uses the imagery of how a mother hen or bird spreads their wings over their young, in order to protect them from danger. For those who belong to the Lord and are abiding in (dwelling, remaining in vital union with) the presence of the Lord, we can trust the Lord to protect us. Here is a portion of Psalm 91:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge. Psalm 91:1-4a NKJV

This kind of relationship with the Lord creates trust that causes us to know that no matter what happens, God is in control, the enemy cannot take us out until it our time to go, and the Lord will never allow more to be put on us than what we are able to bear (I Corinthians 10:13).
