Accursed Objects

Like many people, when I was a child, our family celebrated Halloween because we didn’t know that it was a Satanic holiday. Most people probably think of Halloween as a fun time to dress up and get candy, but we need to be aware that many witches and Satanists participate in demonic rituals and even animal or in some cases, human sacrifices during this time. And often, even Christians can give place to the enemy without realizing it. Deuteronomy chapter 7 gives us a warning about accursed objects:

You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing. Deuteronomy 7:25-26, NKJV

An accursed object can be an idol, carved images used for idol worship or any object that has had a curse or spell placed on it or been used in witchcraft or occultic practices. These objects are nothing in and of themselves, but a demonic spirit can attach itself to them.

Scary or horror movies can open the door to a spirit of fear, causing nightmares, etc. Also, Satanic music can open a door to demons. And even Halloween decorations that have to do with witchcraft, a spirit of fear, death, etc. can open the door for these types of spirits.

I would like to share an incident that happened many years ago to illustrate this point (which is also included in my book entitled Essential Keys to Spiritual Warfare & Deliverance). There was a young woman who attended the church we were a part of at that time. She requested prayer over her home because she and her daughters were having nightmares and experiencing a demonic presence at night. As a couple of other ladies and I (from the prayer team) walked through her house, we noticed that there were posters of witches, vampires, etc. (from movies) on the wall, along with scary movies on DVD and books. I asked the young woman about them and she said “They belong to my husband.” I explained to her that having these kind of things was like a welcome mat for a spirit of fear and she should remove them from her house if she wanted to get rid of the nightmares and spirit of fear that was tormenting her and her daughters. She and her husband were separated at the time and she said she would have to contact his parents to see about having them removed.

Next, as we went to her bedroom, I noticed a “dream catcher” hanging over the bed. For those who are unfamiliar, a dream catcher is a Native American talisman or type of “good luck charm” that is supposed to prevent people from having bad dreams. Obviously, this was not working. I had never thought about it before, but I told her I felt that there was something demonic attached to this and that she should get rid of it. I recommended burning it. She said there was also one in her vehicle and she would remove them that evening and place them in the burn barrel. I led her through prayers of repentance for opening the door to a spirit of fear, witchcraft, the occult, etc. by having these objects in her home and then taking authority over these demonic spirits and commanding them to go from their property and herself and her family.

I spoke with her a short time later and she told me what happened that evening. She said she proceeded to place the first dream catcher (the smaller one) in the burn barrel and didn’t sense anything. When she started to throw the larger one in, something told her “This one is going to be different.” She stated that as the dream catcher started to burn, she felt something inside go from her stomach to her throat and start choking her. As the talisman continued to burn, it went out of her mouth and she was relieved. This was a demonic spirit that the door had been opened for by her having the dream catchers, etc. in her home and vehicle.

I have Native American Indian in my bloodline and mean no disrespect to the Native American Indians by sharing this, but when I looked up the origins of the dream catcher, I became aware of the demonic roots that I had sensed. According to one particular tribe of Native American Indians, one of their tribal leaders said that a “teaching spirit” appeared to him that was in the form of a spider. While it spoke with him, it weaved a dream catcher, which has an appearance like a spider web. The “teaching spirit” told him to place this in their homes and over the beds of their children to keep them from having bad dreams. Obviously, this was a demonic deception of the enemy.

Further research revealed that some of the New Age communities have adopted the dream catchers and many of them today are created in factories. Often people who are into witchcraft will place spells or curses on the things they create, which can transfer spirits to those who buy or receive them, which is all the more reason why we need to be careful what we bring into our homes.

In Acts, chapter 19, we are told about a huge book burning.

And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. Acts 19:18-19, NKJV

When people are truly born again, they should renounce anything to do with Satan, witchcraft, magic arts or the occult, including seances, tarot cards, Ouija boards, psychic readings, mediums, New Age practices, etc. God wants His people to be free, but in order for that to happen, we must repent, renounce and totally turn away from evil. God bless you all.
