No Fear

As a child, growing up, we celebrated Halloween. I never dressed as anything scary; it was just a fun time to dress up, get candy, etc. I think this is how most of the world views Halloween. However, over the years, I have heard the testimonies and stories from some who used to be witches, warlocks, Satanist high priests, etc., who later became Christians. I have also heard the history behind Halloween, having to do with the Druids, human sacrifice, etc., which evidently still goes on today among those involved in witchcraft, worshipers of Lucifer, etc.

While most of us would never think of being involved in anything like that, I have learned through experience that it’s not that difficult for the enemy to gain an open a door. Years ago, I began having a lot of demonic warfare from the enemy. I did a lot of prayer and fasting to meet these challenges and would often be up at night praying against this stuff. My husband started thinking that maybe I was having mental issues (he told me later), until it happened to him.

I had bought him a shirt, which turned out to be the wrong size. We went back to the store and exchanged the shirt for the right size. That night, he was tormented with demonic dreams all night long. He said every time he fell asleep, he would see demonic creatures with fangs right in his face. The next morning, we called a friend who has a prophetic gifting. She said, did you buy a shirt yesterday? I said no, but we exchanged one. She said, I’m seeing a shirt with a label and I believe the person who sewed the label into the shirt was a witch, who placed a curse on the shirt. After that we prayed, taking authority over the spirit of witchcraft and canceling any curse placed on the shirt. We kept the shirt and Tim didn’t have any more demonic dreams after that; Praise the Lord.

Years later, I was at a birthday party with our son, who was about four at the time. I started talking with another young woman, who had a little boy about the same age as our son. She told me she had been having nightmares every week for years. I said, “Did you ever watch horror or scary movies?” She said “Yes, but I don’t do it anymore.” I said, “Have you ever prayed a prayer of repentance for that and taken authority over the enemy and commanded him to go in the name of Jesus?” She said “No.” I said “Would you like to do that now?” She said “Yes.” So, I led her through a prayer of repentance for giving place to a spirit of fear by watching horror and scary type of movies and then taking authority over the enemy. I sensed the presence of the Lord and felt that something was accomplished. I saw the young woman a few weeks later and said “Have you had anymore nightmares?” She said, “No, not since we prayed.”

Another time our ladies’ intercessory prayer group prayed with a lady who had become demon possessed after playing with a Ouija Board. When the demons would take her over, her eyes reminded me of how Gene Simmons from the group KISS looked. The demons spoke through her, telling us they hated us, etc. When I asked them how they got there, one said emphatically: “Through the board!” (meaning the Ouija board). It was a lengthy process, but we were able to help her get free. I’m sharing this because I want people to realize that this stuff is real; it doesn’t just happen in movies and it doesn’t take a lot to give place to the enemy.

I Timothy 1:7 says: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. NKJ

Hebrews 5:14 says: But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. ESV

As I said, it doesn’t take much to give place to a spirit of fear or something demonic and the Bible says that Satan transforms himself into (or masquerades as) an angel of light (II Corinthians 11:14). The enemy works through deception; that’s why it’s so important that we have spiritual discernment and walk close to the Lord and it is my prayer that we would all continue to grow in spiritual maturity and discernment. God bless you all.
