He is With Us

He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! Assuredly not! So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified] What can man do to me? ~ Hebrews 13:5b AMP

If you are someone who has abandonment issues or a works mentality (feeling like you have to constantly be working to earn approval), and you don’t sense God’s presence, it can be easy to feel like the Lord has left you. For years, I felt like I had to constantly be working to earn God’s approval and when I didn’t sense His presence, I thought I must’ve done something to displease Him or I hadn’t done enough.

This scripture and also Psalm 139 have always been a great source of comfort when I would feel this way. The Lord said four times in Hebrews 13:5b (in the original Greek language) that He would never leave us or forsake us. In Psalm 139 David starts by talking about how the Lord is constantly aware of our every move, the thoughts in our hearts and our words, before we even speak them.  In verse 7, he says “where could I go from your Spirit (your presence)?” He goes on to talk about how God formed him in his mother’s womb and he states that all the days that God had planned for him were written in God’s book before they ever happened.

Just because we may not sense God’s presence does not mean that He has abandoned or rejected us. Jesus said He would never leave us or forsake us, He would go with us always, even until the end of the world. Don’t base your relationship with God on feelings. Base it on His promises.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord that no matter how I feel, I know your promises are true and you are with me even when I don’t sense your presence. In Jesus name, amen.

This was an excerpt from my new book called Essential Keys to Healing a Wounded Heart Daily Devotional Guide which hopefully will be out soon. God bless you all.
